A Frame can Make All the Difference

I wanted to share this example of what a wonderful difference the right frame can make for a painting. I call this watercolor "Afternoon Showers". I thought it was pretty, but too bland to be noticed much.

I decided to double mat the painting with a sharp black inner mat and a lighter gray inner mat. Then I made a beautiful dark and shiny frame, with gold-ish highlights and wonderful texture.
I think you'll agree that now the painting would really stand out on any wall, and is sure to get noticed.

  1. It is wonderful, but I must say although I like the frame, I do not like the colour of it. Anyway, I am not an artist so of course don´t take this into account.

  2. I love it Laura...it would look really nice in the right color room. The matting and frame really bring out the classy look of the monotone like color of the painting. Gives me some inspiration to try it out. Thanks for posting. Deb

  3. Deb-
I'm glad you love it- thanks so much for letting me know! :) And if you try out something similar, I'd love to see how it comes out!

    Alita-
Thank you for your comment, too. I'm always thrilled for comments whether you like it or not!
I would like to say, however, that I tried to take the picture in good light so people would be able to see the frame well on my website where I have it for sale, but in most lighting situations the frame looks darker, like in the lower left corner of the photo. I'm not sure if I would like it either if it was lighter, like on the upper right side of the photo.
    Thanks again for your comment!
